SuccesS Stories
Ace
Ace is one of those dogs that needs a little more care, compassion, and time to find his forever family. A current resident of the Humane Society of Summit County, Ace is about 3 years old and has been in the shelter for half his life. He arrived with severe injuries after being hit by a car.
He needed femoral head ostectomy surgery to repair and restore pain-free mobility to his rear leg. Staff describe him as a sweet, goofy and loving boy. To see him in the kennel though, visitors only see a scared dog who lunges, barks, and growls at visitors he doesn’t know.
Because he experienced more stress than normal in the kennel environment, he was placed in a therapeutic foster home for several months. In the home he was a completely different dog! The foster care giver was able to work closely with our behavioral team to manage his anxiety – and provide valued information for his future forever family.
Ace has been back at HSSC for a few months. He is still waiting, and he is kept in a distant kennel in an effort to reduce the stress of the noise of the kennel. It is not ideal, and we only hope his forever family finds him soon! Dogs like Ace have suffered greatly before their rescue, and they deserve a calm, recuperative environment while they are in our care.
